Cancer Research is Saving Lives

A Message from Katie:

I am deeply honored to serve as a V Ambassador, carrying forward this incredible legacy developed over the past 31 years. Coach Valvano’s relentless fight against cancer continues to inspire so many, and I am committed to doing my part in advancing research and support for those affected.

Cancer touches countless lives, and having the platform to make a meaningful impact is both a privilege and a responsibility I embrace wholeheartedly. If my efforts can contribute even in the smallest way to finding a cure or providing hope, then I know I am honoring who Coach Valvano was and the countless warriors battling this disease every day.

Join Katie and Donate Today

Katie has continued to highlight the urgent need of cancer research as an ambassador of the V Foundation. The V Foundation is committed to achieving Victory Over Cancer®, and you can join Katie on our team by giving a gift today to support game-changing cancer research.

100% of direct donations will directly benefit the most-cutting edge cancer researchers at the best cancer research institutions across North America. Your gift will give scientists the tools to better understand this disease, improve treatment options, and save lives.

A two-time All-American at Penn State University, Katie Schumacher-Cawley was named the head coach of the Penn State Women’s Volleyball team on January 10, 2022.

In just her third season at the helm, Schumacher-Cawley made history of her own. A national champion as a player on the Nittany Lion’s first championship team in 1999, she added a title as a coach after leading the 2024 team to the National Championship. She became the first female head coach to lead a team to an NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball title.

The 2024 championship run was nothing short of magical. However, this historic run came during a season in which Schumacher-Cawley publicly announced a breast cancer diagnosis in October 2024.

Since her diagnosis, Katie has found the importance of cancer research and the impact it makes. After completing six rounds of chemotherapy, Katie was able to ring the bell!

Our Vision: Victory Over Cancer®

The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State University basketball coach and ESPN commentator. Because the V Foundation has an endowment to cover administrative expenses, 100% of direct donations is awarded to cancer research and programs. The V Foundation is committed to accelerating Victory Over Cancer®.
